Laura Phelps, career coach at Goose Creek Consulting, is dedicated to fostering professional development and providing guidance through career transitions. Laura’s passion is working with clients to identify their ideal career and find professional fulfillment. She strongly believes each person has the potential to achieve any goal they may set and strives to provide the support necessary for her clients to succeed.

Laura’s coaching focuses on identifying her client’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, goals and talents as well as developing professional self-confidence, building workplace communication skills, and finding a work/life balance. She works with her clients to create a realistic plan of action to encourage forward momentum and emphasizes the importance of proactive problem solving. In her coaching Laura takes a “whole person” approach where she recognizes that an individual’s well-being, fulfillment, and success are rooted in many interconnected factors. She is sensitive to the fact that a career transition can be incredibly difficult and overwhelming and recognizes the importance of providing the support, structure and guidance that allows her clients to develop the skills necessary to succeed.

Qualifications, Education, Experience:

Laura has a master’s degree in organization development and knowledge management from George Mason University (GMU) as well as a graduate certificate in Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance from GMU. She completed her coach training through the Coaches Training Institute and holds an Associate Certified Coach credential from the International Coach Federation.

Laura’s professional experience includes over 15 years in higher education administration including student support, strategic planning, assessment, and organization and leadership development. In addition to her private coaching practice, Laura has served as a member of the GMU’s workplace coaching program and she mentors students in the school’s coach training program.
